Junior Accounting Technician

The Position

The successful candidate would be an individual with the ability to build and manage client relationships.  This role has the potential for advancement.   

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of compilation year-end work
  • Preparation of corporate tax returns
  • Bookkeeping using all journals/modules in Sage/QuickBooks
  • GST reconciliation, preparation and filing
  • Payroll preparation
  • Training and discussion with clients
  • Occasional travelling to client’s location
  • Preparation of basic personal tax returns and adjustment
  • Preparation of T4, T5 and T5018 forms
  • Phone calls and e-mails to and from clients
  • Light administrative duties as needed


The Candidate

We are looking to invest in our relationships; both to our clients and team members. You would exhibit a strong desire to grow and learn in your accounting career within the public practice environment.  

Requirements:

  • At least one year of bookkeeping experience.  
  • Microsoft office suite experience is required.  
  • Knowledge of Sage (formerly Simply Accounting), QuickBooks and Adobe is preferred.
  • Tax and accounting software such as Caseware, Taxprep, etc. are a plus.  
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal)
  • Organization and time management skills are necessary.  
  • Strong client service skills

Manager

The Position

The successful candidate would be an individual with the ability to build and manage client relationships and develop a strong team of internal staff.  This role is for a mature person who is looking for a long-term management position and the potential for advancement.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct initial review of year-end working papers, financial statements and tax returns
  • Work closely with the partners as part of the senior team regarding tax planning and consulting for our clients as well as developing and shaping the growth and future of the firm
  • Coach, manage and mentor junior staff; maintaining a safe, secure and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Assist with business development opportunities for the firm
  • Maintain and improve on quality service by enforcing client service standards; analyzing and resolving quality and client service problems, identifying trends and recommending system improvements
  • Build our clients' trust, develop their long-term relationship and take on the role of a trusted advisor
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing results as needed


The Candidate

We are looking to invest in our relationships, both with our clients and team members - the ability to make positive connections is critical to success in this role.

Requirements

  • A designated accountant or within a year of designation.
  • At least two years experience in a public practice firm.
  • Preferably have experience managing junior staff members.  
  • Highly driven and motivated.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and able to interact in a positive manner with clients.
  • A strong knowledge of IT; able to assist with the installation of programs and work with our IT professionals.
